Bring on 2021, a fresh start with new beginnings and new life! In 2021 for every online order, we will plant a tree (not personally but by donating to the experts:).
We will be partnering with One Tree Planted to plant a tree in Ontario for every online order placed. If you live in another part of Canada, US or the world. and would like a tree planted in your area, please be sure to place in the notes section of your order.
Why has this become my family's passion and why are we doing this? What is our fascination with trees and why are they so important to our environment? They clean our air, filter our water, and absorb harmful carbon from our atmosphere. Forests also: provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines ( One Tree Planted)
Our deforestation strikes close to home, and it is criminal what we are doing to future generations. Per One Tree Planted:
Given its remarkably large land area, Ontario's forests are incredibly diverse. From the northern lowlands around Hudson Bay, through the Boreal forest, and on to the deciduous forests in the south, Ontario is home to a wide array of unique plant and wildlife. However, many of Ontario's amazing forests are being pressured by natural resource extraction and encroaching agricultural development. On top of this, in April 2019 the Ontario government cut funding for its tree planting program, which intended on planting 50 million trees by 2025.
Reforestation in Ontario will greatly benefit communities, biodiversity, and the environment. Planting trees will restore critical watersheds, rebuild important wildlife habitats, and will ultimately combat climate change and global warming. Most importantly, your donation will help to fill the void left by the Ontario government's termination of the 50 Million Tree program. With your support, conservation organizations who were counting on support from the government will be able to continue planting trees across the province.
From 2001 to 2019, Ontario lost 4.54Mha of tree cover, equivalent to a 6.4% decrease in tree cover since 2000. See link below for more information.
We do feel that the efforts of One Tree Planted and the army of volunteer tree planters can make a huge difference. We would like to do our small little part for sustainability by supporting this worthy cause.
